Mini Movie Theatre Entertains the Welsh

A Swansea based mobile movie theatre will be performing across Wales this month.

The Sol Cinema -a micro movie house powered entirely by the Sun. Complete with smartly dressed usherette and red carpet, the tiny movie theater has been dubbed by the BBC as ‘the smallest solar powered mobile cinema in the World’ .

Fresh from performing on the Gower recently, the Sol Cinema is off to Cardiff on Saturday to take part in the Art Car Bootique. The mini cinema will be showcasing films on behalf of Film Hub Wales.

Penclawdd artist Jo Furlong and friends designed the micro cinema by recycling a 1972  twin berth caravan to accommodate 8 adults in comfort for a unique cinematic experience. The Sol Cinema has toured all over UK and Ireland.

Rhyl will host the Sol Cinema in June before they travel to perform at Glastonbury festival. Earlier this year, the Sol Cinema entertained the Welsh Rugby Squad before the Wales V France match.

Sol Cinema projectionist Paul O’Connor said
‘ We entertain thousands of people each year with the Sol Cinema and give up and coming film makers a unique platform for their latest work’

Sol Cinema designer Jo Furlong added
‘The Sol Cinema has been lavished with pride and style and runs entirely on renewable
energy. We use an low energy LED video projector and batteries to store the
energy from the Sun.Our photovoltaic panels harness the sunlight, even as the films are
being shown, so we never run out of power.’
