Press Release August 18th 2015

The World's smallest solar powered movie theatre will be performing at GreenMan festival this week.

Based in Swansea, Sol Cinema is a unique mobile theatre which both entertains and demonstrates the power of renewable energy. Complete with usherettes, red carpet and popcorn, audiences are treated to a unique 8 minute movie experience.

Sol Cinema won a Digital Hero award last year for their best use of sustainable technology. At GreenMan festival, the mini cinema will be screening a wide range of Welsh and International short movies free of charge.

Sol cinema has been showing short films at events across the UK and Ireland since 2010, and is made from a recycled 1970s caravan. A 120W solar panel is used to send the sun’s energy to a 300ah battery pack, keeping it constantly charged to run the cinema’s projector, sound system, lighting box and digital equipment.

Sol Cinema projectionist Paul O'Connor said
'The Sol Cinema is a perfect showcase for how technology can support sustainability and bring new videos to wider audiences. We bring the cinema to the people. We are very exicted to be performing at GreenMan festival and to bring a smile and spread the green message.'
