Man faces 10 years in jail for filming cops

The camcorder has proved to be vital in showing that Police lie in court.
One man who used the camera on his phone got more than he bargained for.
In the US, he is facing 10 Years in Prison after Photographing Cops making a violent arrest.

It was just after midnight on New Year’s Day 2012 when Antonio Buehler spotted a pair of Austin cops manhandling a woman at a gas station during a DUI investigation, so he pulled out his cell phone and began taking photos.

That, of course, prompted one of the cops to storm up to him and accuse him of interfering with the investigation.Austin police officer Pat Oborski shoved Buehler against his truck before handcuffing him. He later claimed in his arrest report that Buehler had spit in his face.
Read the full shocking story.

The outrage it has caused brought together over 200 people in July. A hundred free video cameras were handed to those committed to monitoring police activity in their neighborhoods.

We are Pussy Riot

A Portsmouth shop owner has used his window display to show solidarity with Russian Punk band Pussy Riot.
Pussy Riot is a Russian feminist punk-rock band based in Moscow. Founded in August 2011, the band stages politically provocative performances about Russian political life in unusual locations, such as Lobnoye Mesto on Red Square, on top of a trolleybus or on a scaffold in the Moscow Metro.
On February 21, 2012, five members of the group staged a performance on the soleas of Moscow’s Cathedral of Christ the Saviour, motivated by their opposition to the Russian President Vladimir Putin and the politics of the Russian Orthodox Church.Their actions were stopped by church security officials. On March 3, after a video of the performance appeared online, three of the group members were arrested and charged with hooliganism.

A journalist published where he gets his income from

A journalist published where he gets his income from;

George Monbit said
'I believe that everyone who steps into public life should be obliged to show on whose behalf they are speaking: in other words who is paying them, and how much. I would like to see journalists, like MPs, become subject to a mandatory register of interests. But until that time I hope to encourage other journalists to declare the sources of their income voluntarily – by declaring mine.

One is with the Guardian, to supply columns, blog posts and other material, from 1st February 2012 until 31st January 2013, for which I am paid an annual fee of £62,007.
The other is with Penguin, to write a book about rewilding, for which I will be paid £40,000, for work across 3-4 years.
I have one other regular source of income: the rent paid by my two lodgers, which currently amounts to £6,000 a year.
Please note: these figures, as well as the additional income cited below, are gross earnings, not net income. I am a freelance journalist, and a good deal of this money is put back into my work. I employ an assistant, run my own office and must also make my own provision for research, travel, pension, tax and other expenses. My total taxable income last year was £43,708.

Journalists and the biased coverage of English riots of 2011

News outlets need to be held to account for their coverage of the headline-hitting English riots, a new report that came out on Monday has argued.
Media and the Riots: A Call for Action, published on the first anniversary of the Tottenham, north London, riot is the first report to examine the impact of the mainstream print and broadcast media’s reporting on the communities most affected.

The report, written by University of Leicester sociologist Dr Leah Bassel, reflects the views of those people who attended the Media and the Riots conference held by the Citizen Journalism Educational Trust and The-Latest.com in November.

How to survive the future....leaves today from Bristol

Today a couple leave on an adventure. You can follow a Bristol couple as they navigate through a Europe on the brink of bankruptcy. They say
'We explore what living without a functioning economic and political system is like, meeting compelling characters and relaying the darker comedic side of collapse.'

A filmmaker is taking a boat around Europe to explore the future.

She said
I’ve been planning a film on the subject of a looming catastrophic crash in our current way of life for a few years. I’m very interested in the divide between people who believe this will happen and  those who haven’t really thought about it, and also among those who are physically attempting to prepare and those who believe but don’t act on it at all.

I was inspired to make this film because of my husband Sam, who has been looking into Peak Oil issues for some years. For a rundown on Peak Oil issues and to see what some other people are doing to prepare for this particular catastrophe, see http://powerswitch.org.uk/forum/

Some friends of mine are more concerned about climate change, others more preoccupied with pollution, Nuclear war or meltdowns. Others are expecting sudden devastation from a renegade fragment of the sun or spinning amorphous superstition around the 2012 deadline.
