'Shoplifting for Jesus'- new album from Alabama 3
Excellent publicity for Alabama 3's new album
Why 'Shoplifting for Jesus'?
There are so many questions to answer about what is theft and what is liberation.
Is illegal downloading theft?
Is sampling and borrowing from other musicians homage, tribute or another form of shoplifting?
If it's ok to kill for whoever your god may be, isn't it ok to steal in their name too?
These are confusing times we live in when, in the words of Rev D.Wayne Love, 'Wrong is Right.'
While the poor have to pay the price for the pilfering of the bankers, who have left the world's economies in tatters but are never made to repay their debts, our youth are being attacked for taking something back for themselves - whether that is an illegally downloaded tune or a pair of knocked off trainers...
We say all property is theft and we're all thieves.
This album is full of begged, borrowed, stolen and recycled ideas.
It is an album that cries out against the demonisation of our young people.
Whether it's the riots in London or the Arab Spring it's all about the young people taking to the streets amid the death throws of capitalism.
Alabama 3 say the youth is our future and we must celebrate all signs of resistance.
Our time is now.
You must get this record.
Steal it if you can.
Buy it if you can't.
'It doesn't matter what you liberate as long as you liberate yourselves' says Larry Love.

Undercover eco-Cop film on Channel 4
A contact of mine managed to attend a private showing of a rough cut of the film about undercover cop Mark Stone. Planned for broadcast by Channel 4 next month, the film maker Brian Hill showed his rough cut at this event http://www.quadranglefilmfest.com.
From what I heard, the film is lacking focus as no environmental activist will engage with the filmmaker. Mark Stone was a police officer who duped his way into the environmental movement for 7 years. My contact tells me that Mark Stone has very little charisma on camera so is a bit dull to watch. Blue screen and re-enactments have been used to try and liven the film up.
This is from Channel 4 press office:
Directed by Bafta-winner Brian Hill and narrated by Kennedy, Cutting Edge also features interviews with the police to reconstruct the story of how Mark Kennedy went from being a regular south London police officer with a wife and two children, to becoming Mark Stone. This was Mark the environmental campaigner, militant activist and undercover cop who broke into power stations, learned how to make bombs, infiltrated groups hell bent on attacking major corporations and stood arm in arm with anti-capitalist anarchists. He also had a relationship with a female activist for four years and was even beaten up by fellow police officers unaware he was undercover and all the time he was feeding intelligence back to his handlers.
Now, with his cover blown only a few months ago, he lives in fear for his life. He is separated from his wife and family. The woman he fell deeply in love with as Mark Stone never wants to see him again. For the first time, Kennedy is returning to face up to himself, his actions and to the people who claim he betrayed them.

Film maker gets Bionic eye
Canadian documentary maker Rob Spence has always loved science fiction.
So much so that when he lost his eye six years ago, he took inspiration from some of his heroes."There are so many characters in pop culture and science fiction that have a camera eye that pretty much anyone who loses an eye at least makes a joke about getting a camera eye."In my case, I just actually did it." iPhone App About Apple's Rotten Supply Chain Gets Past Censors
To the great surprise of its creators, a funny new iPhone game critical of Apple's human rights record was accepted by the iTunes store and is being released today. The app, called Phone Story, teaches players about abuses in the life-cycle of the iPhone by putting them in the manufacturers' shoes. To win, players must enslave children in Congolese mines, catch suicidal workers jumping out of Chinese assembly plant windows, and conscript the poorest of the world's poor to dismantle toxic e-waste resulting from obsolete phones.
The seriously funny new game will sell for 99 cents on iTunes; all proceeds will go to organizations fighting to stop the horrors that smartphone production causes.

Camp Frack- September 17
Camp Frack
Manor Farm, Hesketh Bank, Near Southport, Lancashire
Weekend 17-18 September
http://northern-indymedia.org/events/2175
What is fracking?: The process – called hydraulic fracturing, or fracking - involves pumping a mixture of water, sand and drilling fluids at high pressure into the rock, to split it apart and release the natural gas it contains.
This process has already, in its relatively short history, caused a great deal of controversy, due to environmental problems and risks posed to human health, including water contamination and higher rates of air pollution than that of coal production.
And now ‘fracking’ has recently begun in the UK – starting with several sites near Blackpool.
Camp Frack Info
What: The camp will include a day of workshops on shale gas, and on planning an ongoing national campaign against it. It will involve raising local awareness about the problems with shale gas and an action day of peaceful protest mainly focused on the nearby active drilling rig, but we also hope to have the option of expeditions to take the message out to Blackpool and Preston as well.
For details see http://northern-indymedia.org/events/2175
