Want to host a comedian in your Swansea home?
I was contacted by a Channel 4 prod company today asking us to find a Swansea family who want to be filmed in October.
They wrote:
Jack Whitehall is coming to Swansea with a new Channel 4 entertainment show and is looking for a local family to stay with.
Are you a fun-loving family, proud of your Welsh heritage? Do you think you can show Jack a good time?
Would you be willing to put our host up for the night and show him just how hospitable the people of Swansea really are? If the answer is yes then we want to hear from you.
If you are interested, email paulo@undercurrents.org with your contact details, a family photo and the reasons why your household is the best.

Russel Brand on the riots
At least someone is talking sense about the riots unlike a lot of liberal people who suddenly turned right wing overnight (you know who you are!)
Russel Brand on the riots-
'Amidst the bleakness of this social landscape, squinting all the while in the glare of a culture that radiates ultraviolet consumerism and infrared celebrity. That daily, hourly, incessantly enforces the egregious, deceitful message that you are what you wear, what you drive, what you watch and what you watch it on, in livid, neon pixels. The only light in their lives comes from these luminous corporate messages. No wonder they have their fucking hoods up.'

Evening Post: Video channel is set for switch-on
The South Wales Evening Post wrote a piece about the launch of the video channel for Swansea we have created with 4 other video groups here in Swansea.
STEPHEN Fry talking briefly about Swansea's Viking links, a how-to guide to jewellery making, wedding footage, a critique of Swansea Film Festival and some very freaky grass in Singleton Park — a new video channel launched by Undercurrents sees people posting snippets and items of local interest, with a launch event going ahead tomorrow in Castle Square.
Some of the Swansea Telly clips will be shared on the Big Screen for the launch, from 12noon until 2pm, and they are also on show at www.swanseatelly.org
The items screened on the channel have been produced as part of a digital inclusion project to get older people, the recently unemployed and others to create and produce online content on issues that interest them, with workshops going ahead throughout the year covering computer skills, film production, digital photography and other topics.
Young people's views on issues, funny footage, people's bugbears and more are there to see, too.Undercurrents, based at the Environment Centre in Swansea's Pier Street, specialises in films about social, political and environmental issues and related campaigns.

Meanwhile Potential local TV locations revealed
Sixty five towns and cities are in the running to pioneer the UK’s first local television services.Culture Secretary Jeremy Hunt has today announced the areas which have been identified by Ofcom as suitable for local TV.
A map has been published today detailing areas across the UK from Aberdeen to Plymouth and Londonderry to Norwich which can make the case to enjoy the service.
“These new local TV services will be a fundamental change in how people get information about their own communities and how they hold their representatives to account,” Mr Hunt said. “There’s a huge appetite for local news and information in communities the length and breadth of the country. I want people to be able to watch television that’s truly relevant to them.”
The first licences will be open to bidders in just a few months and a consultation has been published today asking the potential towns and cities why they think they should be among the first selected to bid for a local TV licence. It is expected that the initial list will be narrowed down to about 20 contenders for the first set of licences before the end of the year.
The Government is also seeking views from potential multiplex operators asking them which locations they think will make their model a success.
Mr Hunt will hold a series of summits around the country in the next few weeks to discuss these issues and how local TV could provide a valuable service in different communities.
The framework for local TV, published last month and currently being consulted on, confirmed that a block of geographic interleaved (GI) spectrum will be awarded to a single multiplex licence holder, which will carry local services licensed by Ofcom. The 65 areas were identified by Ofcom following a detailed analysis of towns and cities which have good GI spectrum coverage from existing transmitters.

Yodel couriers are so crap
One week ago today I ordered 3 x i-Phones for our staff. They were supposed to be delivered by Yodel Couriers last Friday.
A week later I am still waiting- excuses have ranged from not being able to find our office (no other courier has a problem) to turning up after office hours and wondering why no-one is answering...Doh!
I have emailed them for explanations and I still haven't got a reply- phoning them does little good either. So today speaking to the Carphone Warehouse, they have stated that they are also having loads of problems with Yodel and are ending their contract with the crap courier.
I am not alone either..a quick search finds other tales of woe.First called Home Delivery Network then rebranded as “Yodel” because of complaints. They bought DHL Domestic last year so they can be big and crap at the same time.So moral of the story is - if you need a courier don't use Yodel

Security firm out of control at festival
Citizen Journalists leapt into action at this years Secret Garden Party when private security attacked a festival goer.
Male and female security attacking journalists and festival goers. Some trying to seize cameras and others tackling people to the ground.
A spokesperson for the Secret Garden Party
‘It has come to SGP’s attention via Social Media that a group of people are
distributing a video online which implies misconduct by our current security
company. As with any allegation of this type we will be investigating
further and liaising with the company and the police to see if there is any
substance to this, taking action accordingly. We take any accusations very
seriously indeed, as the welfare of all our Gardeners is paramount, and will
review the situation on evidence presented. We have invited this group to
meet and discuss their issues but have met with no response thus far’

The Antics road show- pranksters
Undercurrents are busy supplying archive images for The Antics Roadshow.
Part of Channel 4's Street Summer season. The Antics Roadshow is a celebration
of the pranksters, hoaxers, jokers, activists and stunt merchants who use
public space for their own unauthorised ends. This film brings together a wide
range of individuals with all sorts of motivations: but they have all hijacked
the public arena to make a noise, be it for comedic, artistic or political
ends, and they have all done so using a variety of illicit, and eccentric
methods which an audience should probably not try at home.
