Yodel couriers are so crap

One week ago today I ordered 3 x i-Phones for our staff. They were supposed to be delivered by Yodel Couriers last Friday.

A week later I am still waiting- excuses have ranged from not being able to find our office (no other courier has a problem) to turning up after office hours and wondering why no-one is answering...Doh!
I have emailed them for explanations and I still haven't got a reply- phoning them does little good either. So today speaking to the Carphone Warehouse, they have stated that they are also having loads of problems with Yodel and are ending their contract with the crap courier.
I am not alone either..a quick search finds other tales of woe.First called Home Delivery Network then rebranded as “Yodel” because of complaints. They bought DHL Domestic last year so they can be big and crap at the same time.So moral of the story is - if you need a courier don't use Yodel

I definitely back this too. First they deliver me a green 'you were out' card when I was actually in all day. And then I book a redelivery time for the item online, take the day off work to wait for it, and then when I call them to track it, they say that it was ordered for that day and then "cancelled at customer's request" - now why would I do that?? So I've now taken the day off work, and had to order redelivery for tomorrow, yet I said I needed to be in a meeting between 2-3pm, but will arrange to be in all day outside that hour. Well, apparently they can't give times, but what's the betting that they come between 2-3pm??

I back this too - they are utter s****e. I waited in for the whole day today. I checked the delivery status online to find that my delivery had been returned to the depot as they couldn't find my house.
Okay, I live in the countryside, big deal. I left the house name, the street, postcode and phone number with these idiots. My street may look out of the way on Google Maps or something but you really couldn't miss my house if you'd bothered to drive to the street OR the postcode. My only other experience with this shower of shit of a business ended with the same result. But, that time, I was living in a city and took a day of work only to find a 'green card' in my letterbox. I swear the driver had parked up and sneaked up on my house to leave the card. ]
Yodel are a disgrace. I've now got to go to my brothers 40th birthday tomorrow without his gift.

I agree - took a day off to receive a delivery from them and they did not bother ringing the doorbell (they must have tapped very lightly on door instead!) There were two cars in my driveway, a few windows left open so I could listen out for them and the front-door was not even locked. One does wonder if the drivers are on some kind of commission scheme for each delivery attempt rather than successfull delivery. 10 days later I am still without my parcel despit re-arranging 3 times.
I will be boycotting all suppliers using them from here on - starting with Eurocarparts.

yep they really are rubbish, dhl gave us some problems but within a few months of them being yodell there's been more problems than with a whole year of dhl!

Yodel may just be the worse delivery service and customer service and useless website ever. I will make sure that I never again order from any seller who uses Yodel.

It's not always couriers fault, distribution warehouse is a shambles, my husband has just started as a courier with yodel and began by delivering catalogues, what a shambles, 6 vans to deliver one order of catalogues, then expected 10 days work to be done in 5, so spare a thought sometimes it is always as it seems

Anonymous said...

think also of the courier getting the blame for all sorts of problems and all for the princely sum of 65p per parcel in all sorts of weather

Paul O' Connor said...

Thanks for your comments. When I talk about the couriers I am talking about the firm and not just the drivers.

I blame the managers, the owners, the warehouse and the drivers- they all have a hand in running the company professionally, yet what I have experienced is a shambles.

I HATE YODEL!!! ignorant, unhelpfull and uncaring staff - lost a days wages waiting to find "returned to depot",no green card now i have to pick it up myself and when i do i will demand petrol money and my delivery charge back! - IDIOTS..

'Yodel' are the most incompetent bunch of idiots I have ever experienced. Every time they try to deliver, they cock up. Good's not delivered when promised, left when the instructions were clearly NOT to, goods thrown over the gate and damaged, or green card left, with no parcel number, so that when you try to use their automated service for re-delivery, you can only progress so far. The complete crettin that I spoke to in their so called 'customer care' centre this morning, actually hung up on me, because he couldn't answer my question!

I have advised 3 online companies that use these pratts, to find another courier, or lose my custom, and God knows how many more.

I have absolutely no sympathy for the staff, be they delivery drivers or ofice staff. This company deserves to go under!

I have just started driving for them and i find your comments very rude ! we are under imense pressure to make 70 + deliverys a day .... Some days i am working 14 hrs + , Its not the drivers faults thigns are going wrong.... We try our hardest . I have been out of work 3 years and trying to earn some money to feed my family.....

Yodel are a joke but it's an even bigger joke that any Yodel employee would write on here about their difficulties! Sympathy? Get lost!

I have nothing but problems with Yodel and I am currently trying to find out why my parcel was delivered back at the service centre instead of to me. Apparently, the driver 'ran out of time' - at 5pm when they are meant to deliver until 9!!

I now have to take ANOTHER day off of work due to their incompetence.

Why large sellers use them, I have no idea... except they are cheap! that may be so but cheap isn't always cheerful!

I would advise any Yodel employees reading this (those that can read that is... have you ever tried to converse with anyone at what I loosely term the 'Customer Service' Centre?) to work for someone else.

From conversations I've been having with others about this, Yodel are the most hated and considered most useless couriers of all!

Anonymous said...

their management is shite as well full of idiots with big bellies

Speaking as a Yodel courier (from the DHL@home side), I'd like to say that half the time when people get a green card they don't even bother to call. I leave my mobile number on the card so you can contact me direct and will go out of my way often to please a customer. The service we provide is no worse than many others, a colleague of mine was delivering to a block of flats recently and the ParcelForce guy didn't even get the parcel out of his van or ring the buzzer before leaving a card!! Just remember, you are not the only person waiting for a delivery and 8 out of 10 of my customers receive their parcel either early or on time.

Anonymous said...

Got to be the worst firm ever!!
And yes it is some times the drivers fault.
Says he couldn't access building to either deliver parcel or leave a card despite me being in all day and no delivery anywhere near my house. He must be a midget if he couldn't reach my letter box to leave a card at least. Rearranged delivery only for them to not turn up again. No point phoning you get no where. 2 weeks on and I still have not been united with parcel. PlEASE STOP USING THIS FIRM

I ordered Modern Warfare 3 from a catalogue and the courier they use is Yodel, it was supposed to be delivered on Tuesday 8th November. They said they were unable to deliver and they had left a card (which they didn't) so i rearranged for today so i made sure i would be in all day so they had no excuses. Now they tell me that they had no access to the property. I have now rearranged for tomorrow, cant wait to see what excuse they come up with tomorrow.
Bloody useless. I'm seriously livid right now.

Ok, obviously you have all had bad experiences, and yes every company has bad employees, but I've worked as a courier for Yodel (previously DHL) for over 2 years now, and there are some brilliant loyal couriers at my branch! We do our best every day to please customers. We give out our personal numbers on the cards, and if we do miss you when u have popped out or are in the loo we will often go straight back if contacted by the customer. I take calls from carded drops often up until I go to bed, even though we don't get paid anything extra for this part of our job! I have been known to take a redelivery call at 11pm! Try getting hold of the post office at that time of night! We do NOT get paid for attempted delivery, unlike some other companies, we only get paid when the parcel is delivered, so not delivering it is not in our interest!! Why would we come all the way to a customers house just to drop a card and leave without knocking, because we also do NOT get paid any fuel or milage and this has to come out of our own wages. daily I have customers commenting what a fantastic service we provide but none of that is ever written on these sites.

Paul O' Connor said...

I am sure there are some great workers within Yodel but they seem to be the exception rather than the norm.

I wish I had some of the couriers who were as contentious as you. However every single time I have a Yodel delivery they screw it up.

Francis said...

up until now i have had no problems. i do appreciate that is a hard job, i think it would be easier if the couriers were allowed to carry mobile phones so that you can call the customer if any problems arise concerning delivery. a lot of negativity (including myself) but how many of the posts on here actually try for some feedback as to how to improve the system.

Paul O' Connor said...

Francis- I, probably like most people commenting here have tried to contact Yodel. But their customer service is useless. Nearly impossible to get any response from them. SO giving feedback doesn't work.

This is why we are all making comments here. Yodel will hear about these complaints and hopefully do better in future.

Francis said...

Paul- i do agree with you, their excuse today is that it is being held at gatwick depo at customers request which is complete and utter b*****it. My point was when i talked to them yesterday i suggested that it might be a good idea if the driver had my mobile number but i was told that they dont carry mobile phones with them which i thought was a bit odd considering the job they do(or dont do)

Anonymous said...

Totally agree with all these comments, have waited in all day for a delivery, then at 7pm called to see if they were going to deliver and they say they tried and i could not be contacted, bunch of liers no one came to deliver and no card was left.. how do these kind of poor businesses ever get contract's with the likes of carphone warehouse!!

Tuesday - green "you were out" card when I was in ALL day. He can't have even knocked the door otherwise the dogs would have heard him.

Rang them up - rearranged for Thursday.

Today is Wednesday (not Thursday!!) - got home to find another green card with "x2" scribbled on it.

Rang them up again - Thursday is not not possible & it's going to be Friday.

How many times do I have rearrange MY schedule to accept delivery from a company that doesn't even know which day of the week it is?

Yodel use "self employed" couriers who are expected to use their own vehicles (a car is fine - I checked) and store customers' parcels in their own homes. As far as I can see their payment rates are sub minimum wage but that's ok because their staff are "self employed". Which is why they can undercut Royal Mail. Welcome to the future of the UK postal service.

According to Yodel's tracking system, my order went 'out for delivery' at 2.43pm last Thursday. Their depot (Chandlers Ford) is about 20 miles from where I live - I could easily have walked there and back twice by now. In fairness to Amazon, their Customer Service is being very helpful but I think they need to reconsider their delivery agents in future.

Anonymous said...

Further to the above, Yodel actually rang me back this morning. They admit to a backlog of 3000 packets at their Eastleigh Depot and they don't know where mine is.

Anonymous said...

OMG I wish this could be broadcasted to the world I have never come across such a useless courier service up until now. Exactly the same thing apparently they have left an invisible card saying I was out although I have actually been waiting for this parcel all day. I wish big companies will stop using them life will be so much more simple.

Anonymous said...

Further to 2.52 above, Yodel have finally admitted they don't know where my parcel is. Amazon have agreed to refund my money and cancel the order - they have been fine.

How can the driver post a message on the tracking site to say "Attempted delivery at 8:15pm" when I was sitting here waiting for him? This is just total incompetence!

Anonymous said...

i have problem with yodel too. ive read my email and statuses about delivery, apparently someone has signed for my parcel at this address, but ive never heard of this person from this area. surely if they deliver they will give you a green card saying that someone has got it for you to collect? ive been waiting for 3 days for this delivery and have to book 3 days off work. i never have problem with delivery before because i get the same driver, so obviously there is a new driver who aint got a clue where i live or delivered to a wrong address. all i can say is that yodel sucks!!

Anonymous said...

I have tried four times to get yodel to pick Up parcels for delivery and have been let down every time. I run my own business and have around sixty parcels a week to go out, they just don't turn up and to top it all you have to fight tooth and nail to get your money back.
We used home delivery network (now changed to yodel) no problems at all, what a difference a name change

Ordered a £300 laptop for my 12 year old daughter's Christmas from Tesco Direct on 3.12.11. It was meant to be delivered by Yodel on 9.12.11.

Never showed up and Tesco now (3 days before Christmas) tell me that they reckon that Yodel have "lost the laptop"!!!! Tesco don't seem to care much about that and suggested that I "start again".

Very poor!

It’s clear, from last night, that The latest blogger to experience Yodel says

'it’s utterly pointless talking to Yodel – they either leave you hanging on the line until you get cut off, or simply don’t answer – or just pour a torrent of bullshit in your ear if they do. And I can tell you, from personal experience, that they don’t reply to online inquiries which detail their fuckuppery and ask for an explanation and a firm delivery date.'

The first one was delivered a day late, and the second was delivered to the wrong address in a different town 12miles away---The driver had to retrieve it the following day and then re-deliver it to me. Same story. Waited in all day - no delivery. Checked website, it says they called at 12.15pm and left a card.

This was utter rubbish - oh and quite a coincidence that both the doorbell was silent and there was no card.

Call centre was utterly unhelpful - no customer service at all; all defensive gobbledygook about how hard it is to leave a card with glass doors. If that were the case then why say a card was left...

You can't argue with stupidity.

Why are so many enterprises like Woolworths et al going bust and this company is still in business? I am going to check every web purchase in future and will not buy if it involves Yodel.

What an amazing organisation. Absolutely no communicationbetween them at all. I raised a complaint on19/01/12 and was assured that the manager at Nantgarw would call me back. No call by 25/01 so I called the office. "Sorry she's in a meeting," Ms. Hurley did call back later in the day but said she was Unaware of the problem. She assured me she would call back yesterday, but needless to say, this didn't happen.
I therefore called again this morning, and Guess what, another meeting. I await with interest subsequent excuses

Most INCOMPETENT COMPANY I HAVE EVER HAD THE DISPLEASURE OF DEALING WITH!!!
I ordered a pair of shoes from an online store, I wasn't in when Yodel came to deliver, and received a green card (no big deal as I'm never in when couriers come as I WORK!)
So, I went on the Yodel site, and told them I'd collect the item from their depot.
On the agreed date, I went to their depot (having left work early to do so!) only to be told that “I wouldn't be collecting the item from there” as it was in another Yodel depot (?!).
With it being rush hour, and their depot being located in the busiest area in the town, I asked the guy at the depot to call the driver, and get the driver to leave it in my garage the next day when he could redeliver.
So I left, a little hacked off that I'd had a wasted journey, but happy I'd managed to get an arrangement in place which means I'd get my item.
So, I was shocked when I received yet another green card - the driver had completely disregarded the instruction agreed on the prev day.
Got on the phone to their 'customer services' (and I use the term vaguely) they 'didn't know why' this had happened, and asked if they could redeliver to a neighbour the next day. I agreed to this. She told me that they would leave a card for me to tell me where they left it.
So, after a couple of days with no card having been left, I called up 'customer services' again.
The woman said that the driver had delivered it to a neighbour, but didn't leave a note which one. – My item was somewhere....But where? – I didn’t know, and neither did yodel!
So, I asked how I was going to get my item. Her response??
DRUM ROLL PLEASE...
"Oh, if you could just go round to your neighbours, and a few houses nearby and ask them if they have the item!!!!"
Can you imagine?! – Hello Sir, has a non-named company left a package for me?!?!
Are you KIDDING ME?! I was number 60 in a street of over 150 houses!!
I contacted the folk I'd ordered the item from and got them to refund me.
What a joke, miles in the car, several prem rate minutes on the phone, and NO ITEM!
I now email all companies I order from before I place an order.
Unfortunately, this YODEL company are so unbelievably S*** that if a company uses them, I don't order from them. I have had to quit shopping at some of my fav stores as a result, but I just can't deal with this company.
There’s a petition going to get Amazon (I’m presuming one of Yodels biggest customers) to stop using Yodel – I urge you to sign it!

I am so disgusted with Yodel and their drivers! i was still am waiting for a parcel to be returned to a company it was supposed to be picked up on thursday instead their driver turned up on the wedensday as the item had not be repackaged (was a tv for my disabled son) i got a pile of abuse from the driver for waste his time etc thinking he would come back on thursday as arranged i waited in only to waste a day and they didnt bother come back. I rearranged for monday and tried to put in complaint about driver but yodel dont keep track of where their drivers are seeminly! be warned get the driver to sign a bit paper state that they have picked up your parcel as they wipe their wee computers so as far as we aware they could keep our things and state they did not pick up, this was a warning from a major company. YODEL and 90% of the drivers YOUR USELESS

yep, another failed delivery....
They sent me a link which showed a delay on route. Then it showed Consignee Cannot Be Reached - we had been in all that day and work from home so taking no crap on that one.
Then the vendor informed them it could be left in the hay barn - apparently they've now left it in the hay barn, no sign of it and no confirmation slip - I was in a the time stated for delivery and sitting by the door/window!! Looks like the vendor is considering redelivery of another package through a more reliable courier service.

I'm now worried after reading all these comments. I bought something from Ling Electronics, who I'd never used before. Got an email to say my item was despatched on 9th but as of today, 16th, no parcel. Checked Yodel online and they reckon a delivery attempt was made at 5.55pm on 9th when someone was in and every day subsequently before 8am. This is a lie. No delivery attempts have been made and no cards left.
Can I demand a refund from Ling??

As a female Yodel courier driver, one with a brain, can drive and don't have a "Fat arse that I can be bothered getting off of to ring a doorbell" Poor grammar I know but copying what someone said on here.
Why would a courier put a green card through your door if you were in? Our whole objective is to deliver your parcel first time as we DO NOT get paid for attempted deliveries. If we have to come back to your door we do it without getting paid and only if the parcel is delivered do we get paid, if we attempt delivery 3 times and no one is home we get nothing!!. Perhaps all the people who say they have received a green card through their doors when they were actually in, are either deaf or so slow to arrive at the door because they were on sites like these ranting and raving and talking nonsense. We get paid very little, have to put up with rude, obnoxious and infuriating people just like yourselves but still smile and hand over your parcel. Why not moan about important things in life, things that actually matter? Not whether your Xbox game or new skirt is a day or two late. It's actually quite shallow when you think of all the important things in life, illness, disability, abuse, criminal activity etc etc. Keep your strong emotions and vent your anger for a worthy cause, not because you missed your local Yodel courier, you may just find she/he is a very nice person who is working their fingers to the bone for very little pay. Think about it.

Anonymous said...

As for that Female Yodel driver, I agree with what you say about people ranting, but at the end of the day when you have a present you are waiting for for your child and it does not arrive and no one take the blame its very frustrating , if you pay for a service it should be delivered, simple as that. These people are not looking for answers to crime, poverty or even world peace, but put it into perspective, do your job proprley and there would not be a need for people to complain.I dont think 100 people go together and created a little club to make up complaints about a company, there are genuine issues that should be resolved by Customer services. Its not hard really is it?

Belisa Swansdowne said...

To the female Yodel driver: I checked my parcel tracking and saw that a downright lie had been recorded ('no one to receive card'). As FOUR people were in the house at the time of delivery, I find it incredibly upsetting that both Yodel and an employee find it acceptable to trivialise and lie about your service. And please note...this is not the first time Yodel have messed up a delivery for me. As my partner works from home and my elderly mother lives with me, there is ALWAYS someone available for delivery...AND I have a window sticker by the door asking people to wait a short while due to an elderly person residing in the house, just in case. I now have a policy of informing the company sending the parcel of any such discrepancies in Yodel's service, and frankly, hope that the vendors change to a more reliable company ASAP.

Belisa Swansdowne said...

Oh, and did I make it clear that no card was pushed through the door at all? And that two of those four people at home were right by the door at the supposed time of delivery? And finally...here's the killer...I have a large dog who barks EXTREMELY LOUDLY at the slightest tap on the door.

radeck.com said...

Same here in Belfast. Spent whole day home to read, to my astonishment, a note on tracking site:

"No One To Receive Card Left".

Of course no one was here nor card was left. I rang their "help line". One of pre-recorded messages says that I need to "obtain" failed delivery card to get my parcel. So I spoke with an "advisor" who called herself Charlotte. She told me (quite robotic, script reader way) that it is NOT possible to pick the parcel myself until I gt the card and the only way to obtain the card is ... to await another delivery attempt.

After 25 minutes of going in circles I give up and rang once more - this time selected "feedback" and was told that I CAN go to service centre and pick up my parcell all right ...

Just waste of time and worst reliability I ever seen ...

On the morning of march 6th, I received a text that my parcel was on the way I stayed in till about 4 pm no delivery, so I call yodel only to be told that they did receive my parcel at the eastleigh branch early enough for it to go out for delivery but that they will deliver on march 7th. Ok fine, I went out in morning expecting that by the time I come back there will be a we missed you card, I got back before 10am I then tracked the parcel to it status only to be shock with the words "Receiver Refused the Parcel", I called their customer service and explained to them that I live alone in my flat so I'm not sure who refused the parcel if no one else live in my flat with me. My keys were in pocket surely the driver could not have spoken to my door or did he? Maybe yodel drivers are capable of doing or saying strange things as I have learned on here today. I called carphonewarehouse and they called yodel to find out from the driver why he said the parcel was refused, I was at the other end of the line whilst all this was going. I was told it was a mistake and that they can assure me that the driver will come back later to re-deliver. I waited till 9pm as I was to but nothing happen again I went online to check my parcel status only to see that it was returned to depot by 17:15 whilst I sat there till 9pm waiting for the idiots. By that time I couldn't call all offices are close but I cannot wait for later on today to deal with both carphonewarehouse and yodel.

I am amazed that Carphonewarehouse are still using Yodel. The manager of the shop told me they were sacking them after they took a week to deliver my iphones (and then still couldn't find my office so had to deliver them to a local shop). The manager said they had so many complaints about Yodel that they were sacking them. So much for that as the latest comment shows Yodel and Carphonewarehouse are still are a union!

stef said...

:( everytime yodel "delivers" we've had problems. 1 phone went missing, and a case was opened againist them with carphone warehouse. All my other deliveries I have to go collect from depot because they cant locate me. Do they not have uptodate sat navs, or can they not ring to ask for directions!! Customer service is shocking, totally unreliable!

I'm a self employed Yodel courier and whilst I agree that the management of the company is a shambles some of the comments regarding the actual couriers that have been left on here are incorrect and frankly ludicrious. Lots of people claim that green cards were left without the couriers knocking at the door. This makes no sense as the couriers are paid PER PARCEL not per attempted delivery. It is in their interests to deliver the parcel at the first attempt otherwise the have to pay more out in fuel and time to revisit the property. Some other comments have been made that we are 'supposed to deliver until 9pm'. We are not 'supposed' to deliver until 9pm we are ALLOWED to deliver until 9pm. Funnily enough after spending the whole day delivering parcels when someone phones me up and asks me the deliver a single parcel at eight thirty in the evening they get a polite NO. It also continues to amaze me people who order next day delivery knowing full well that they are not going to be in during normal working hours and then moan when they don't have their parcel. Every time I attempt a delivery I leave a card with my personal number to call. I would estimate that less than half of the people call back. Finally can I suggest that if you are unhappy with your couriers that you get off you fat lazy arses, do some exercise and go to the shop and get you items from there.

Anonymous said...

Get off your arse, yeah we should do that and put yopu out of business,

Paul O' Connor said...

It is good to see company loyalty from employees but writing that all the people who have left comments here are lying is ridiculous. Why would so many people just make up the same story about the green cards?

Sure, some Yodel drivers are probably great at their jobs such as yourself. But from my own and many others here, the experience we all share from Yodel is one of unprofessionalism, and a total lack of customer service.

I have been a customer of Littlewoods Mail Order for over 15 years and my orders were delivered by the Home Delivery Network van operating out of the Woolston Grange, Warrington (depot). I always had the same driver and I could guarantee that any delivery would arrive between 14.00 and 14.30 hours. Service was first class. I knew my driver so much so that if we passed on the road, he would wave or if he had a parcel for me he would signal to me and hand it over on the road. Simply brilliant but then came along Yodel and they closed the depot on Woolston Grange in Warrington and made the superb delivery drivers redundant on the 1st January 2012. It has now gone completely tits up.

Bring back my regular van driver and get rid of the second rate self employed couriers !!!

J L Penn, Runcorn said...

I agree entirely with Anon about the drivers from the Woolston Grange, Warrington depot. They were simply the best.

Re-open this depot and rescue your business before evryone abandons Yodel !!!

Self employed couriers in cars are NO SUBSTITUTE - THIS IS WHERE YODEL HAS LOST THE PLOT !!!

Thank to Yodel, I have waited a week for an item from Amazon.

In that week, the item took 24 hrs to reach Yodel, it was then taken to a town no-where near to my home address, where the item was refused. The item then spent another three days going to Scotland (the other end of the country!) At which time Amazon wrote and told me they were refunding my money due to unsuccessful delivery!

Yodel are a disgrace and should be put out of business!!!!

Anonymous said...

Why are Yodel couriers coming on here to say complaining about Yodel is wrong, usually backing up the point by saying they work for very little, or are overworked?
Is it good that a company under-pays staff or leaves them with so much deliveries that they cannot fulfil their promises.
I've had nothing but bad experiences from Yodel.

skapunkninja said...

Im having problems with them as well.
First they lost my parcel for 8 days. When it eventually turned up (after numerous phonecalls) I found the parcel covered in boot prints! On opening I found my item to have been snapped in half! A STEEL replica rifle for re enactment. Now, I would struggle to break it even if I was trying, so god knows what they done to it.
Ive been told by them that itsc probably not going to be covered by insurance, and now they won't return my calls.
£350 down the drain, avoid at all costs!

I bought a largish item from an Ebayer which was lost, probably stolen, Ebayer refunded me ok, but I had to find a similar item and had to pay a lot more money, this company Yodel are pure shit and should be closed down!!!

It makes me sad to read these comments,I'm a courier for this company and have been doing this job for years,I take great pride in what I do,and so do many of my colleges, but for so many of you who have so many problems with delivery is shocking and should not be happening, why? this job is not rocket science,to be fair I know my area like the back of my hand, and have lovely customers, may be new couriers should have more training i know i did,I could go on about pay ect,but there is no excuse for poor deliveries,Is it a postcode lottery as someone else says,if so why is this not being looked into by the powers that be,I know couriers that have been sacked for poor service where I work, and to right,if you can't do the job,I hope all you good couriers out there who do you job with care and pride keep up the good work, knowing full well we are not one of these idiots, morons, you read on here.I hope things will change for the better, there is still some good workers out there and we do care.

BBC Watchdog have investigated Yodel. Watch their report here
http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/watchdog/2012/03/yodel.html

Amazon. Currys. Boots. O2. If you've ordered something from any of them, chances are it'll be delivered to your door by Yodel. Or maybe it won't. The company formerly known as HDNL, had a trail of unhappy customers when it featured on Watchdog in 2010. Sixteen months on, new name, new promises - same old problems. Rebecca Willcox reports.

Yodel: New name, but delivering the same old problems?

I googled "how shit is yodel" and came here - obviously very shit! I won't be using two well known internet shopping sites again because of appalling Yodel service in Truro, Cornwall, UK.

What a shower of Shite, lazy, bone idle drivers with no grey matter. Yes, I live in the country. I also have a nameplate at the bottom of my drive telling any literate fool where they are & where I am. Driver said he couldn't find my home, took the parcel back to the depot. Customer service tell me that their drivers are not given company phones and are not obliged to use their own. 'It's at their discretion'. An absolut waste of space as a courier company which should be looked into by the Inland Revenue. They are obviously running at a loss on purpose.

Anonymous said...

The lack of professional care and customer service within this firm is staggering. I have emailed the company that I bought my goods from and informed them that I will not buy from them again whilst they continue to use this courier. As consumers we deserve a certain degree of service and respect. Sadly Yodel display neither. Forcing individuals to take time off from work is NOT acceptable if they consistently fail to deliver the goods. A dramatic shake up of management staff and customer strategy is needed to avoid this company going into administration in the very near future.

andrew yodel guy.

first thing to say is we only get payed when a parcel is delivered! got that ? good!

second all the people who choose the option 'address only, deliver before 5;30' and know they will be out all day are complete whoppers! most of the time they will ask the courier then to leave with a neigbour or in the back yard etc. SORRY but that is classed as fraud YOU have to sign for it. i'm not going to risk my job for that.

THIRDLY leaving a CALLING card with my own mobile number on and they don't bother to call to rearrange delivery AND IF THEY DO CALL THEY NEVER LEAVE A NUMBER TO CONTACT THEM BACK, AGAIN WHOPPERS!

I HAVE EVEN HAD CUSTOMERS CALL ME TO ASK WHERE I LEFT THE PARCEL AS THEY HAVE 'SEARCHED' EVERYWHERE FOR IT. ITS OBVIOUS THEY HAVEN'T BOTHERED TO LOOK AT ALL SOMETIMES!!!

Yodel, well, what can I say, they are a bit of an enigma. They have said they have been trying to deliver to me for the past 4 days, and left me a card. Not at my address they haven't.
There has been someone in my house all day. And no card has been left. I think they make it up as they go along.

Anonymous said...

Hi Tim ... you were lucky to get a green 'you were out' card. My daughter ordered me a birthday present. I also ordered something from the same company. Both were delivered by Yodel, but not to me. Eventually, three days after my birthday, the company the orders were purchased from emailed me to say who had signed for the parcels - neighbours. I asked why Yodel had not put a note through my door, even though I was in. To quote "We do request that yodel put calling cards through the doors of customers, however, occasionally they run out of cards, so none are left." So where am I supposed to start looking for my parcels? I'm absolutely disgusted with them.

i worked 15 years with this company and it went from bad to worse , with the aqusition of dhl domestic who use home courrires for a pittance , yodel have delivery targets beyond belief 150 deliveries a day , a delivery every 3 minuted is expected , drivers working more hours than getting paid , and customers thinking that they are the only delivery that they are making ,, and if you stay in a cottage the name of the cottage or farm should be seen clearly from the road ... i think the company will gp bust in 6 months

It simply cannot be a coincidence that every single delivery I have ever had from Yodel has gone wrong. I love how their drivers on here claim we are liars too. Why would so many people make the effort to complain?
I have never received a delivery when stated and most of the time it is claimed a card has been left when it hasn't, just complete and utter lies. I can only assume the driver couldn't be bothered.
Yodel's customer service phone number is an even bigger joke. 30 minutes wait and getting charged excessive rate for it too. When you do finally get through to someone they are ALWAYS the thickest and most depressing sounding people you'll ever talk to. Unhelpful, sullen and surely unemployable anywhere else in the country.
Once had my new iPad left outside my communal flat entrance and another time arranged to collect from their depot and nobody there had any idea what they were doing and my parcel was nowhere to be seen.
I've no idea how Yodel are still in business but they won't be much longer!

Anonymous said...

I had 5 packages to come through Yodel. 2 turned up 10 days early (fortunately the shed was unlocked and they left them there - which was fine)the next package was 3 days late, and so far 11 days after my 2 beds were meant to be delivered there is no sign!. How can you lose 2 beds?. Or are they sleeping on them instead of working. I tried ringing all the numbers I have found. Finally spoke to the idiot who was run out of their village for being too stupid, who was stunningly unhelpful and couldn't even find them in the system. It doesn't help that I have no tracking number (as of they they haven't even tried to deliver - so no number) so I am in limbo. From the website I ordered them from, I can see they were delivered to G&M in Airdrie (now part of Yodel), so if I can find that out how come this useless bunch can't find them

Anonymous said...

It's amazing to see comments from drivers defending the company. Quite a few of which are rude and offensive - which I guess is what we have come to expect from Yodel. They truly are the worst couriers and their comments show that they would rather come up with excuses than apologise for mistakes and try to fix the problem.

Low pay for long hours? Talk to the people who set the prices at Yodel. They are set to undercut other couriers to win contracts so don't complain to us. We pay what they ask for a service which is rarely delivered. You don't deliver and you lose 65p, but we lose a days pay waiting in.

Too many parcels to deliver in a day? Tell your managers. It isn't the customers fault if your company expects too much. We just expect the service we pay for. If you can't deliver that service then YOU need to sort it out.

Driver leaves a card with their mobile number on it? I have never had a drivers mobile number on a left Yodel card. Instead they get you to phone their premium rate customer services for which they make more money. They then explain that they can't contact the driver directly. Most of the time the drivers say they have left a card on the Yodel system and haven't (and I have 24 hour CCTV recording my front door). This seems common place.

8 out of 10 of your deliveries are early or on time? So 20 percent are late or not delivered at all?! That is a shockingly bad statistic for a service we have paid for.

Don't ask for delivery if you are going to be out? Some of us have to work. We cannot be in all day every day just in case a Yodel driver decides he can drop something off that day. Some online retailers will only deliver to the registered credit card holders address. Now if you could provide a time slot, or even guarantee a day, or allow us to change the address to where we work, that would be nice.

@andrew yodel guy - You say you won't leave parcels without a signature as that would be 'fraud'. Then you say some customers ring up asking where you left the parcel because they haven't looked properly! So you do leave parcels without a signature? Just more contradictions and excuses.

I am sure there are some good drivers at Yodel but they are so outweighed by the abysmal ones they might as well not exist. More info and videos here:

i have just left Yodel to join DPD.I consider myself to be a professional driver and put the customer first. What no one seems to realise on this topic ,is,you as the recipient ,are not the customer ,the sender is.its the duty of Yodel or any other courier business,to honour the terms of the contract with the senders.some senders for e.g. amazon allow all parcels to be left in a safe place others allow delivery to neighbours some to address or consignee only.in all cases your address should be tried first.if a courier has carded you its because you didnt answer your door within 30 seconds of them knocking. unfortunately lots of you have doorbells that dont work,no names or numbers on your doors,or youve ordered a next day parcel and then arent in.as for Yodel as a company, its tried to get too big too soon it cant get 2 different systems to work (DHL HDN )together and it is currently closing either the DHL depot or HDN depot in each area, the staff in all depots dont know if their staying or going so moral is rock bottom.many like me are leaving ,others who are entitled to redundancy cant leave.I predict there wont be a Yodel for you to moan about for very much longer.

Anonymous said...

Thanks for your comments above. I totally sympathise with your sentiments regarding morale. However, I beg to differ on a case of law regarding the customer. The legal case of Donaghue V Stevenson has set precedent regarding 3rd party consumerism and the direct responsibility that is owed to these individuals. To that end, YODEL are in breach of the expected service that is expected by an individual in the UK. Ultimately, YODEL are an ineffective organisation, who are failing to dliver at EVERY level. They cause stress and financial hardship by forcing people to take time off work. Other couriers do not do this and are far more consumer friendly!!!!!!!!!!! YODEL also charge premium rate to even raise these issues (last one cost me £22). Not acceptable. Shareholders of YODEL rejoice in the short term. In the long term, your company is coming down!!!!!!!!!

I can't believe that companies who care about their customers and business actually use Yodel.
I have ordered 3 items from 3 different companies and not one item has been delivered;- every time Yodel are involved goods don't arrive.
It's the same old thing.."we tried to deliver"....not hard enough it seems.
I complained to the company I ordered an item from this morning, and mentioned all the problems I have had with Yodel.
I think I will boycott businesses that continue to use this sham of a courier company.
We are a country in recession..banks aside...any wonder why?

But I am informed by the company I am buying from that Yodel do not deliver out of the UK and now - having read all the above comments - I think I will buy from another company but check their courier details first!! What a laugh especially as we have a DHL just down the road.

I have to say Yodel are a disgrace. I ordered a washing machine for del 6th July from Amazon. Why did I buy a washer ? Cos my old one was broke. Promised delivery within a week so 6th being a friday before weekend was Dandy to wash kids Clothes.

Tracked the order and Amazon despatched it on 2nd Yodel got it on 4th so 2 days to deliver was a good plan.

By the 7th Im still waiting trying using their web site - receipted 4th end of story couldnt get through on phone so I called Amazon who rang Yodel and got told the delay was they needed to check it over so delivery would be the 11th.

Ok So if I say they are SHIT can I justify it. Simply this they had it 2 days before delivery and knew the delivery was for the 6th yet despite having all my contact numbers and email addresses they cannot even contact you to apologise or let you know not to stay at home they simply ignore you

I think they work on the balance of numbers Pile it High sell it cheap Amazon and all these large etailers will not change using these syphylitic shit shovelling snot gobbelling tic turds as their costs would go up and no other parcel company could take on their volume.

YODEL you are a disgrace to the logistics industry where you take advantage of every aspect of the market, customers, owner drivers and couriers alike.

I hate Yodel. Took me over a month to get a bloody toaster delivered. First I got it "delivered" to the office and apparently some random person called "NIKEO" signed for it? Then when I convinced the vendor to send a replacement to my home address, they simply leave the box outside my house in full public view. Luckily one of my neighbours rescued it for safe keeping. I am speechless. The business model is fucked. How it is a good idea to incentivise self employed workers to deliver at all costs, it means they are taking punts by discarding our valuable packages anywhere with anyone. UNBELIEVABLE. BOYCOTT THESE IDIOTS.

Anonymous said...

I just looked at becoming a self employed delivery driver for Yodel.

This is what they told me. You use your own car, petrol, phone and have to organise your car insurance and all that. I would then need to drive to their depo to pick up the parcels. I then have to deliver within 20 mile radius of the depo. you have to deliver to the customers required time which means being available all day, evenings and weekends

And for all this they are willing to pay a staggering 50p per successful delivery! So if you drive 20 miles and the customer is not in you drive 20 miles back don't get paid!!!

so if I did 20 deliveries a day which could work out easily as 100miles plus and several hours work, I would earn £10 If they was all in. Then out of that tenner I would pay fuel, insurance and phone bills and vehicle maintenance.

Guess what.... I told them to fuck off!!!

All it takes is a google search & you will see these guys are on watchdog.. That basically says it all, these are the worst of the worst.. the cowboy couriers!

Like any walk of life, you get what you pay for. If you pay pennies for a delivery service that only enables them to pay their drivers peanuts, you should not be suprised about the poor service.

Im still laughing at the rates i was quoted to deliver parcels on their behalf.

Add me to the list. Tossers didn't leave me a card, even though I was in all day anyway so they must have just stood outside the door and pretended I wasn't in. Waiting for redelivery of their item, but am not too hopeful. If they fuck up again I will ring to Amazon to complain - although why they use them when it reflects to badly on them is baffling. Amazon are very good when using their own delivery service.

The Yodel courier for Tilehurst and Calcot in Reading is absolutely brilliant, friendly, helpful, everything delivered on time. I can't understand the problems you lot have elsewhere. The problem with this sort of website is it attracts the complaints. The positives of a delivery company may be many, but the only people who know about these are the satisfied customers who consequently have no need to have a whine on a website.

Paul Bayliss said...

Reading the comments from customers on here I would like to point out its not just the people waiting for deliveries that are having problems.
I run a company and a number of websites.
I deliver a lot of parcels to my customers. Or since trying out Yodel for their "competitive pricing" It seems I don't deliver parcels to my customers.
It isn't that they aren't being delivered. They aren't even being collected.
You would think that they would at least attempt to look good to the people paying them to deliver goods.
My items are sold on a 48 hour delivery basis yet I have goods here ordered 5 days ago and booked with yodel same day for pick up and delivery next day to my customers.
Its bad enough they haven't turned up to collect them, but trying to query them via their website returns a sorry our system has glitched due to high demand please try again later message.
Its been like that for 3 days even at midnight they are apparently so busy their website doesn't work. (I can only assume they are having high numbers of complaints processed based on my google search of the company)
Their tracking information only shows that I placed the order and nothing since.
Needless to say I have rebooked everything through citylink next day delivery. More expensive but never let me down.
As for Yodel, well it appears the system won't let me cancel the orders either so at some point a driver will be turning up expecting to take some parcels. Hope he doesn't waste too much petrol getting here, eh.

Paul O' Connor said...

Thanks for sharing your experience Paul. The more cases we have here, the more chance that companies will drop Yodel and find a decent courier firm to work with.

I now laugh everytime I see a Yodel van, wondering if he is lost.

I would also like to echo the complaints above.

I had to waste TWO days off work waiting in for a parcel from Very.co.uk that never arrived, the firs phone call I got through to a representative who didn't seem to care and rolled off the statement "they'll re-deliver tomorrow (which he couldn't know as they courier did not write a tracking number and contact details on the parcel). Phoned a total of three times to deal with it, on the second time was promised a phone call back to investigate the parcel - no phone call, two weeks later and my third call to them today. I got the usual because the driver failed to put the tracking number we cant help response. Ask to shout at a manager and was put through to some supervisor who seeemed more concerned with telling me his name than fixing the problem and then threatened to hang up on my because I was naturally upset.

Apparently they have an emergency number that doesnt work on the weekends and I have to wait until monday to find out (or not as the case may be) what is happening with my parcel??

Absolute joke. Have phoned very.co.uk to complain who confirmed that this is the only courier they use so I informed them that unfortunately I wont be giving them any further custom in future based on these experience that unfortunately do not seem to be isolated!

Ricohxxx at hot mail co uk

Just wanted to say I had a lovely lady knock my door yesterday asking me if its ok for me to take a parcel for my next door neighbour which i happily signed for.

The reason I came across this website is because im currently unemployed and i heard that Yodel were looking for some self employed drivers and as I signed the hand held terminal I seem the YODEL logo on it and asked her what its like working for Yodel.

She told me you get paid 65p per delivery, she gets all her deliveries delivered direct to her house (im guessing that van driver doestn get lost.. haha)

She sorts them out in postcode order, hits the road for 11am and normally finishes at 3pm which would suit me perfect as Im a single parent and need to do the school run for my two boys.

I would be extremely grateful to hear from other self employed Yodel drivers to hear how you are finding it and whether working for Yodel as a self employed driver is worth it?..

Many thanks Rich (ricohxxx @ hot mail co uk

My son is a driver for Yodel. Recently he was accused of racist remarks to a customer and suspended from the Preston depot. After 2 days the company found that it was not my son but another driver. Chris Muire who manages the depot called my son in to offer an apology, the first words out of his mouth were, "I'm not going to apologise...". This depot is a shambles run by an incompetent fool who should not be allowed to be in charge of running a customer driven facility.

Does anyone reading this know how I can take this issue higher within Yodel??? My son will be leaving Yodel on Saturday.

I and my friends were in and sitting within feet of the front door! No card was left...hardly suprising as he had not been anywhere near my house! After numerous phone calls I got his mobile and phoned to be told he would deliver today (Saturday) between 8am and 12. Got up early and waited...at 12.07 phoned to be told only minutes away,,,now 2pm and nothing!!! Lying little toerag..its my husbands christmas present so I am more than anxious. Have complained to DHL, Yodel and the seller!

i must say the service i had from them is mixed i get told on saturday that the item will be delivered on tuesday and it arrives on the saturday which was lucky i hadnt gone out the only problem i have is thecourier couldnot speak a word of english so could not inform me about another parcel i was waiting for that had been ordered before the one i had just recieved i was going to write the question down when he just shut my door and walked off which i find most ignorant

I have used Yodel before. First I brought some sports equipment, which turned up 2 week late. I had to arrange 5 re-deliveries and they still failed to deliver. Finally they delivered, however it was too late for it to be used so I returned it. Then, they gave me a green card for delivering my new projector and screen for work. They said I was out, when in fact he even rang the doorbell but didn't give me time to answer. Last they my new MacBook with a giant label saying 1 MacBook Air in bold caps in full view of the street.I'm surprised it wasn't nicked.

There are few Courier Companies like Capital Courier having computerized operations. So that they work properly and dispatch the product on time and give excellent services to their clients.

Ordered supplies for a time critical project - Next day delivery, Yodel's website claims, "19:47 unable to gain timely access" wed site states they deliver up to 21:00! then it states returned to delivery depot, no time stamp, then at 22:19 "possible delay incomplete address" We have thousands visit us seach year and to the best of our knowledge no one has got lost indeed many state how easy we are to find. Having paid someone to be in 24/7 on the delivery day the next day when no one was in they left a card, depsite parcel stating leave on door step if no one in. Tried ringing Yodel and spent an hour and 13 attempts all of which to 4 separate numbers were disconnected after pressing 1,2,3 do they actually exist? Eventually got through to some girl in some country in a call centre who was worse than useless after pretending that I wanted to send a parcel. Finally someone from their escalation team rang me back, even worse than useless possibly he girl sitting next to her! The result, I spend many thousand's a year frokm various companies that use Yodel, they are all beign adivised that I shall no longer give them business if they use Yodel, add to this my substantial number of clients and contacts and no doubt Yodel will be changing its name yet once again!

Don't blame the driver however, some are worse than useless, butmost are good, it is the management that takes the blame and teh money and whom can't be reached teh delivery driver is the man risking his license trying to fit in too many deliveries a day and working hours many of us would be horrified at. Just close the company down refuse to purchase from any company that uses them!

Anonymous said...

While I don't claim that Yodel are without blame, I have to say that as a manager with responsibilty for home delivery, my branch has a success rate over 99% on a daily basis, and my couriers frequently call back without being asked to try to get parcels delivered and I personally opened up on Christmas eve so a customer could collect a gift for his daughter, so don't tar all with the same brush!

I have worked for many delivery firms and while some Delivery Drivers ARE useless it must be said that most of the time the Public are to blame Customers ( waiting in for Parcels ) sitting in the back garden, bath, etc while you're knocking on the Front Door, Barking and snapping Dogs roaming the front Garden - is it any wonder a Courier sometimes has difficulty delivering ???

Anonymous said...

Having previously spent hours trying to track down a parcel, that had in fact been left with a neighbour and marked as signed for by me, today Yodel have left £1000, yes £1000 worth of testing equipment in full view in my front garden, its a pure fluke that it wasnt stolen. Im looking forward to indifference when I complain.

The Pretend Delivery Company
I have been shopping on the Internet for a number of years and the only odd problem was 'The Royal Mail' because occasionally something 1st class would go missing for a few extra days and just once disappeared completely, but in general the system worked well up until ‘Home Delivery Network Limited’ or HDNL arrived.
Then my orders would disappear for days or weeks and quite often completely, it turned out to be a cowboy organisation but I was consoled in the knowledge that things couldn’t get any worse and they would soon be out of business. However, they had a new paint job and became Yodel so they didn’t go out of business and things got much worse, instead of an ignorant yob at the end of the complaints line there was no one and to complain by email you had to know your own details and ‘Tracking Number’ and all of the suppliers details plus their ‘Collection Number’ whatever that may be.
In the last 2 years out of 47 orders made over the net I have had 6 missing orders, 8 paid for next day deliveries default plus 7 orders that have sat in the Wendesbury Hub (Yodel) for over 36 hours. Out of the aforementioned occurrences the Royal Mail had involvement in just one, Yodel has to claim credit for the remainder, a delivery I was to have received a few weeks ago was still uncollected by the Courier at 11:40 the next day, maybe he was still hung over, been clubbing or something so come 13:30 it was blamed on the bad weather although 3 other couriers plus the postman were out on my road that day.
In conclusion I’d say that Yodel aren’t even cowboys because cowboys are unpredictable, where as we all know what to expect from Yodel and I would go so far as to ask “Shouldn’t such a national scandal be raised in Parliament”? It is after all a nationwide Rip Off, thousands of us pay for this substandard service plus the vast amount of theft involved. It’s not a real delivery company that believes in customer service it just pays lip service, it lies, it cons,it thieves and it pretends to be a real delivery company.
PS
I have just experienced something new and perplexing courtesy of Yodel, I noticed some of my neighbours conversing over a large box but not being particularly nosey I went indoors. Five minutes later and there’s a knock on the door and a blond lady says “Hello, I’m sure this box must be yours, Yodel dumped it round the back of my house No 3 and put this card through No16 to let them know he’d left it round the back of our house but it must be yours because the address is clearly typed No 6” Thank you so much I replied it’s so reassuring to know that my £70- odd quid’s worth of bits was left in a safe place. “You know that firm is absolutely useless” she said, “Some would have sold that lot on the Internet”
Need I say more? does it go all the way to the very top of Yodel? Or are they on a different planet? I think it must and I think they are.
As the lady said,
Absolutely useless.

I'll never use Yodel as long as I can breath. I ordered a very expensive item and was charged next day delivery by my supplier. He sent it via Yodel and a week later they don't know where my item is. I've called them and used live chat to no avail. The live tracker just says its been booked out of the Perth depot. Now they're refusing to deal with me but tell me my dealer has to sort it as he's the one who sent the parcel. Total and utter crap..... do not use them

Yodel are crap,I use my own car and pay for my own petrol to receive 50p a parcel. I travel 30-40 miles a day on and off road, and if someone isn't in I don't get the 50p. I often end up with £160 for a weeks work if you take away the £50 petrol money that came out of my own pocket Its £110. I have to use my own phone to make calls to customers which is not reimbursed and my home is used as warehouse.I have to take abuse of people because they think I'm the reason for the parcel being late. Infact the parcel is often distributed to the wrong area from the warehouse spends a day or two there and then sent back to the warehouse which will finally send it to the right area courier. The addresses on the parcels or manifest are often wrong. The postcodes are often wrong and if i complain I'm threatened with the sack. The PDA is useless so more unpaid time is spent updating after I finish. I bet you you wouldn't work given these conditions, I know I wouldn't if I could find another job.Exploitation is putting it mildly!!

I was out and had a delivery attempted note. I found out that my local depot was 30 miles away and instead of waiting for it to be redelivered I went to the depot with card in hand and my passport for ID.

I gave the girl in the office the card plus my passport and she asked me for proof of address. HELLO?? I said how many other people with my name and a passport AND the card do you think there are? She would not let me have the parcel without proof of address, as I was staying with my son and daughter-in law and it was not my address that was not possible. Had to drive home and await redelivery!!

the Barclay brothers who are the financiers of yodel also own littlewoods, very, isme, woolworths online, former great universal shopping group, shop direct, hdnl, reality, argos online, homebase online,
they 'aggresively' avoid tax on all there interests blurring the financial connections whether it be paying their own company to deliver their own goods/pretending to make a loss on paper when in fact they make ugly hard to find 10s of millions to exploiting couriers on a self employed basis and warehouse staff on zero hour contract when the both are working full time and beyond and with the couriers, the wage doesn't meet the minimum wage quite often . yodel is one of their many 'little' tax fiddles. channel islands are where a lot of their interests are registered for a reason. they live on sark for a reason. wake up to the Barclays and mike ashleys (sports direct, dunlop, slazenger, karrimor to name a few) and boycott their products as much as possible. thanks

employee structure is largely friends and family in my depot which is where the problems begin, friends and family, in reality are not always the best choice of employee. stuff goes missing, scapegoat gets found and sacked, stuff still goes missing. cycle repeats itself again and again. no long term employee is ever under suspicion. my particular depot, though improving will always be rotten to the core until they get rid of the close knit friends and family structure.

These people who leave these comments make me laugh, why not put on your water proof clothing and come and spend a 12 hour plus day with me delivering parcels.I will do half and you can do the other half, and lets see how you get on, when people say they that they are in,when they are clearly not. Mind you that's 12 hours plus 6 days a week, most of these comments are probably from people who don't work and spend most of the day in bed, trust me i deliver to quite a few of them.so before you leave your comments just step back and think about the couriers that do, do the job properly, when we are out delivering on christmas eve up until 9pm.Trying to get through snow and ice to make sure that we make that drop. And remember that at christmas our volume doubles.

I have just had a delivery from Yodel, tracking website was accurate and informative. Parcel delivered without any hassle although I am fortunate that I have been home all day the parcel arrived around 12:30. Just thought I would add some balance to some of these posts as I read some of these and thought this would be difficult.

Yodel are obviously employing astroturfers to spam social media websites blowing the whistle on how shit they are.

Yodel are shit. They rebranded from HDNL to avoid bad press after Watchdog exposés.

I just had an item thrown over an 8' plus fence.

I Googled it and I found over the last year in my city someone else had an xBox thrown over their gate, and someone else a PC monitor thrown over their 7 foot fence.

It's just what they do.

Yodel are c*nts exploiting morons.

... And the Tories are just about to sell off what's left of Parcel Force to shag it completely too. Welcome to the future shareholders.

I am a disabled person and today I had a parcel delivered by Yodel, Firstly the delivery man just threw the parcel over the back gate, then he knocked the door and when I opened it he announced that he had thrown my parcel over the back gate and wanted my signature to say I had received it. I asked politely, you threw it over the gate before knocking the door and he started to shout at me and abuse me saying that he delivered over 100 parcels a day how could he know who was disabled. 1. I was standing there with a walking stick and 2. there was an invalid step and grab rail outside my front door which I pointed out to him, he said he didn't care and wanted a signature but held the electronic thing close to him so I could not sign it anyway, still shouting and abusing me he stepped forward onto my invalid step which I found threatening so I asked who he worked for he carried on abusing me but opened his jacket to reveal a Yodel sweatshirt. I just closed my door and called my husband as I was shook up by his manner and when my husband got home the parcel was thrown half way up the garden. Unfortunately I had to phone the catalogue company to complain as I could not get in touch with Yodel and they apologised and were very good about it then announced the parcel was delivered at 8am but it was not as it was 12.55/ 1pm when the delivery man knocked my door and I was in all day! I am expecting 2 more deliveries and I am now worried that this person will be knocking my door again.

Well I am adding a message to this long list and I doubt I will be the last. Yodel emailed me to say they had delivered a parcel which they had not. When I asked who signed for it they said it was just marked Del. Effectively there is no record so what is the use of using them as a courier you might as well use the regular mail and save some money. They are really bad to get hold of too.

contacting Tesco
they tracked the item as unavailable (due to the investigation raised?) nothing they can do till 48 hours later another attempt.

contacting your colleague A 2nd time,

FROM A YODEL S/EMP COURIER

Please read this to consider the other side of some of the issues raised.

I have recently started working as a self employed courier for Yodel using my own car to make deliveries.

Being new am only being given a small number of parcels daily - yesterday 37 - but even so is v difficult to complete each day - I DO endeavour to deliver EVERY parcel on the day i receive it even though some of them the system advises I can take up to three days to arrive by the time promised to the adressee.

Please consider the following before being so scathing about the drivers it isn't always their/my fault.....

- If your address is difficult to find - or not where you would expect it to be - (often the case with "infilling" and new properties) do you bother to take the time to give a bit of extra info to help the driver - or better still include your mobile number in your address so they can call you if there's a problem?

- How visible is your house number/name??????? You'd be surprised how many houses have neither - we're not issued with a crystal ball with the job.

Do you have a working door bell or knocker that is loud enough to be heard. You'd be surprised how many houses only have light weight knockers that make a feeble noise and no bell at all.

- If expecting a parcel how about leaving a note on the door to advise which of your neighbours to try if you're out. It's been an education to discover how many folks REFUSE to take in neighbours' parcels - many can be quite hostile when asked - also saves having to disturb elderly neighbours many of whom are understandably nervous about opening doors to strangers. It's no joke having to lug around a big parcel (steam mops are popular right now) trying to find somebody willing to take it in.

- If you indicate it's ok to leave parcel in a "safe place" perhaps say where..... Many such instructions have absolutely nowhere suitable.

- FLATS GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR Do your flats have a clear plan, easily visible to delivery operatives of where each flat is?? If in a secure gated address are there clear instructions of how to access the property????? Do you actually speak with your neighbours and if so it would be SO helpful to leave a note on your door to advise which one to leave pkgs with if you're out!!!!!!

PLEASE REMEMBER we are only paid for successful drops - not failed attempts. Some parcels only earn us 50p - how much effort would YOU expend for that? I appreciate there are drivers out there who could be more professional in their approach but customers need to realise just how difficult it can be to do this job as you're all too willing to tar all the drivers with the same brush. I take a pride in my work - I used to have a demanding career but this is something i choose to do to fit in with home life - I am not an "amoeba incapable of doing anything more demanding" as I have seen suggested on other forums(a?) I ALWAYS leave my mob number on the card if unable to deliver and often go back to the address in the same day if contacted.

So please, before being so critical about the drivers involved just take the time to consider if there is anything YOU could be doing to make their job any easier - and your delivery more successful.

I've had two problems with Yodel UK in just one week.

1) They told Jo Malone they couldn't find my address. It's not Malone's fault, as they had the correct address and sent a receipt by Royal Mail that arrived OK.

2) Correctly-addressed package from Bibliophile delivered to an entirely different address on a different road (the kind recipient brought it round).

My guess is that the driver relies blindly on his satnav, and when it sends him to the biggest company in the postcode, he just dumps things at the nearest private house.

I shall not be buying again from vendors who confess to using Yodel.

Anonymous said...

I accept that the drivers are put under enormous pressure, but that is Yodel's fault, not the consignee's.

If it were possible to call the local depot, rather than a premium-rate service, I could have complained directly, instead of having to post on here.

I ordered some goods online and was told by the seller that the parcel would be delivered today, Friday the 12th of December. Yesterday, Thursday the 11th of December at 5.20pm I received a text from Yodel stating that the driver had attempted to deliver the parcel at 4pm and as no-one was in they had left a card. Absolute Rubbish. Both myself and my husband were in, and as we live in a flat, the only way they can leave a card is for the driver to buzz our flat number - they didn't. The text I received said they would attempt to re-deliver the parcel today. I took a day off work UNPAID and waited in. When my husband got in from work at 2.45pm, he rang Yodel's so called Customer Services to see if they could find out when the parcel would be delivered. He was told that they would get the Borehamwood depot to contact the driver and call us back. At 4pm we received a message from Yodel stating that they driver had attempted to leave the parcel at 14.57pm, and had once again left a card. TOTAL AND UTTER LIES - we were both in. My husband then called their customer services again and said it was utter rubbish as we were both in, and at the time my husband was still on the phone to them. They have now said we have to wait until Monday as they are incapable of delivering the parcel on Saturday. Apparently, if they attempt again on Monday and fail to deliver the parcel it will be sent back to the seller. I think I can guess what is going to happen. Yodel are the worst courier company EVER. Their driver is a complete and utter liar and should be sacked.

sophia said...

Hungarian? ;) And the point is my friend, people pay for their items to be delivered and are promised a deadline for delivery. Yodel consisitently break that promise. It's not about those drivers that I should apparently be giving sympathy to because they have to do a freaking job, it's about the company that doesn't provide the service they take your money for.

I've had 5 parcels delivered by Yodel over the last year, two of them arrived without a hitch, the other three took my nearly two weeks from the 'delivered' date to receive them. 40% success rate is unacceptable for any delivery company! I only ever use DPD now, if the company I'm buying from doesn't use DPD i dont buy!
