Support creatives on the web with brilliant donating system

Useful application here

Flattr makes it easier for people to give money to charities and activists of the
causes they support thanks to micropayments.

Micropayments work through a button that works a lot like the Like-button, the
difference being that clicking the Flattr button means sending real money. It is
much easier to use than any donation options; all it takes is a click.. This video) explains how Flattr works.

The bottom line is that your supporters can seamlessly make micropayments to you.
While "micropayment" doesn't sound like much, they make a lot in volume. Tim Pritlov
can attest to that. He’s a German podcaster that uses flattr and gets an average
monthly revenue of roughly 2000 Euro through flattr. You can find out more about him
here : http://flattrchattr.com/2011/06/22/profile-feature-tim-pritlove/

Flattr also serves as a content discovery tool so the added benefit is that you and
the cause you support get more visibility online.

Come check us out on http://www.flattr.com. If you have any comments or questions,
I’m at your disposal.

Solar Panels- try before you buy

FREE SOLAR PANELS OR NEW 'TRY BEFORE YOU BUY'
Solar panels can make you £10,000s, as you get paid to generate electricity, but
should you buy?

Solar panels aren't just about group hugs and going green, they can save you
£10,000s. As the industry's rapidly changing, we've fully re-written our Free Solar
Panels guide (this is a brief summary). You roughly need a south-facing roof to put
the panels on and thankfully they don’t need sunshine to work, just daylight. You
financially gain in two ways:

* solar panelsElectricity savings: typically c. £70/year. The Energy Saving
Trust has cut its estimate of a typical home's annual savings to £70/year, as
its research shows more electricity goes back to the grid than previously
thought.
* Feed-in tariff: typically c. £1,030/year. This is the doozy: sign up now and
for the next 25 years the Govt promises to pay a high feed-in tariff rate. In
other words, it pays you to generate energy at more than treble what you
normally pay to buy it from the grid.

Consider these gains over 25 years, and you'll see it can be extremely lucrative.
There are now three routes to gain:

* Buy panels for £8,000-£14,000. If you have cash, on top of electricity savings
the Govt's feed-in tariff scheme could pay back double your spend. Eg, a £12,000
system could net £25,750 over 25 years (see How To Buy Solar Panels).
* Free panels, but you don't keep 'feed-in' tariff. If you're in England, Wales
or, in a few cases, Scotland, some companies fit panels for free, but they then
keep the big-money feed-in gain. You just keep the £70 electricity saving,
though prices are predicted to rise massively over 20 years, so the saving could
jump.
* Try before you buy. An interesting new option from E.on. You get free panels,
but it lets you buy 'em out, you can do it at a reasonable price to gain the
feed-in tariff.

Donald Trump has been forced to postpone his plan to create the "world's greatest" golf resort in Scotland, complete with five-star hotel and luxury villas, because of the global financial crisis.

Spitfire in a peat bog- digging begins today

A film crew are filming the digging up a WW2 Spitfire today from a peat bog in Ireland.
The digger has to sit on bog mats, big railway sleepers, to spread its 20-ton weight. But even they may not be enough to stop it sinking in. There is also a danger that the hole will simply fill with water or the sides cave in.
It is one of the most difficult excavations that an experienced team have ever faced.

Canada- police use undercover police to infilitrate protest groups

Newly released G8/G20 summit documents reveal the RCMP and various Ontario police forces spent several months infiltrating anti-war, anti-globalization and anarchist groups with the use of undercover officers ahead of last June's summits in Huntsville and Toronto.

The reports by the Joint Intelligence Group formed by the RCMP-led ISU (Integrated Security Unit) show that various police services contributed at least 12 undercover officers to take part in covert surveillance of potential "criminal extremists" in a bid to "detect … and disrupt" any threats.
The reports omit details on specific individuals or groups, nor do they offer conclusions about what, if any, crimes or plots of violence were detected.
"There's a lot of stuff that isn't in there, that's been redacted, or isn't spelled out. But it says these undercover operations were going on, that there were 12 officers," says Tim Groves, who requested and obtained the reports through an access to information request. "The problem is that, looking at these documents, police expected criminal extremism everywhere."

Groves, an investigative journalist and active participant in the alternative media centre during last summer's G20 summit in Toronto, agreed to share the police documents with CBC News. Read here

At a previous protest at the ‘Security and Prosperity Partnership’ meeting protests at Montebello Quebec on August 20, 2007, a Quebec union leader caught and outed three masked undercover Quebec Provincial Police operatives dressed as ‘black bloc’ protestors. They were about to start a riot by throwing rocks at the security police. See the following videos documenting this event.

Police want to delve into Glastors toilets for drugs!

Drugs at Glastonbury festivals enhance the event for so many people so I was amazed to read this on BBC today. It is getting out of hand.

'Festival organisers turned down a police request to access the festival toilets to allow scientists to test sewage for traces of illegal drugs.Detecting tiny traces of drugs in the sewage would allow police to track the type of substance use across the site. But because the event takes place on private land, any research would have to be permitted by the owners.
In a statement, organiser Michael Eavis said: "The drug culture these days has changed beyond belief. "What a cheek to even suggest there's a problem."

Life of Brian story to be made into a drama

"He's not the Messiah, he's a very naughty boy" is one of the most oft-quoted lines in British comedy history. But the religious controversy that engulfed the Monty Python film in which the quote featured, Life of Brian, on its 1979 release was no laughing matter – and is now to be the subject of a BBC drama.
Holy Flying Circus, written by Tony Roche, a co-writer of the political satire The Thick of It, will air this autumn on BBC4 and aims to use the Life of Brian controversy to explore the subject of free speech.

GM crop destroyed

SchNews reports GM: SOONER OR TATER
On Sunday 30th May 400 anti-GM activists broke though police lines to decontaminate a field of genetically engineered potatoes in Wetterem, Belgium. The protest had been pre-announced by the group ‘Field Liberation Movement’, and 50 riot cops were surrounding the fenced off field ready and waiting. Despite this, 15 activists made it over the barbed wire using strips of carpet and uprooted a number of crops before being arrested.

Currently, commercial growing of genetically modified crops is banned in the UK, but that’s set to change. Even though Genetic Modification has so far proved completely unsuccessful at increasing crop yields, the minister for Food and Environment Caroline Spelman announced that the coalition is committed to being “the most Pro-GM government yet”. This is hardly surprising considering she was co-founder and director of Spelman, Cormack and Associates – one of the lobbying companies that have spent the last ten years convincing us that we need GM food to solve the food crisis. Although she resigned as a company director before taking office, the firm remains in the hands of her husband, Mark Spelman.

There are two ongoing GM potato trials in the UK - one at Bramham, Tadcaster conducted by Leeds University and another at John Innes Centre, Norwich conducted by the The Sainsbury Laboratory.

Terry Pratchett starts process to take his own life

Sir Terry Pratchett, the fantasy writer who was diagnosed with Alzheimer's in 2008, said yesterday he had started the formal process that could lead to his own assisted suicide at the Dignitas clinic in Switzerland.

Pratchett, whose BBC2 film about the subject of assisted suicide is to be shown on BBC2 tomorrow, revealed he had been sent the consent forms requesting a suicide by the clinic and planned to sign them imminently.
"The only thing stopping me [signing them] is that I have made this film and I have a bloody book to finish," he said during a question-and-answer session following a screening at the Sheffield documentary festival Doc/Fest.

He said that he decided to start the process after making the film Terry Pratchett: Choosing to Die, which shows the moment of death of a motor neurone sufferer, millionaire hotel owner Peter Smedley.

Cornish town aims to be UK's first to adopt solar power - struggle becomes video series

The residents of the small town of Wadebridge, Cornwall, are aiming to transform the area into the first solar- and renewable-energy powered town in the UK. Their journey towards this goal is the subject of a YouTube mini-series.

The small town located in Cornwall on the southern tip of the United Kingdom has a population of around 6,000 and, thanks to a campaign by local residents, aims to become the first solar-powered town in the UK.

This campaign to convert to renewable energy is being led by the Wadebridge Renewable Energy Network (WREN), which is aiming to install 1Mega Watts (MW) of solar energy by April 2012 and 7MW of solar energy by 2015, which would account for around a third of the town's electricity supply.

Undercover cop film to be broadcast on Channel4 in October 2011

Mark Kennedy, 41, spoke out after the Director of Public Prosecutions, Keir Starmer QC, last week ordered an independent inquiry into the collapse of a trial in January against six activists accused of conspiring to break into the Ratcliffe-on-Soar power station in Nottingham.

In an exclusive interview with The Mail on Sunday, Kennedy – whose story is now being made into a Channel 4 Cutting Edge documentary set to air in October – said: 'The surveillance tapes and my report absolved the men who had been charged.

'R/Evolution' - movie looks at the revolution in human consciousness

R/Evolution' - looks at the revolution in human consciousness required at this time to meet the challenges currently facing humanity. Featuring the philosophies of Danah Zohar, Bruce Lipton and Richard Barrett amongst others, the film looks at a revolution already under way.

From the spontaneous creative initiatives of Tahrir Square to Micro-finance movements in the developing world; from the Land Rights movements of Latin America to the social action ventures of a new generation.
But will these be enough? And what is required of our leaders, of each and every one of us if humanity and the planet are to survive
and thrive.

Get a Palestine support song into the charts

Last week War on Want launched an exciting new campaign to get the song ‘Freedom for
Palestine’ by OneWorld into the UK charts. The song has generated a social media storm – over 200,000 people have watched the music video and the single has been promoted by Coldplay, Lowkey, Billy Bragg, Mark Thomas and LUSH, the ethical cosmetics company.

They said
'We have the opportunity to do something truly historic. But we need your support.
Tens of thousands of people need to buy the single for it to get into the charts
Support OneWorld and pre-order the single now from iTunes
http://itunes.apple.com/gb/preorder/freedom-for-palestine-single/id441209640

If ‘Freedom for Palestine’ gets into the charts, it would send a message to the UK
government, and all those who lend economic or political support to Israel, that a critical mass of people want to see an end to the Israeli occupation. The mainstream media will find it hard to ignore or censor its message and we would be sending a powerful message of solidarity to the Palestinian people.
