Undercover protest cop unit costs £35m in 10 years

AN UNDERCOVER police unit set up to infiltrate 'domestic extremist' groups cost the taxpayer more than £35million in 10 years, it was revealed yesterday.
The National Public Order Intelligence Unit hit the headlines in January when PC Mark Kennedy was exposed for ­infiltrating an eco-warrior group before siding with its members.

Charlotte Linacre, of the TaxPayers’ Alliance, said: “Independent checks must take place to ensure that this unit isn’t just an undercover waste of cash.”
