Mini Round Tender
Following our main commissioning round last summer, we're now holding a mini
commissioning round for a small number of Factual series to target specific gaps in
the upcoming 2011/12 schedule. This commissioning round is open to in house and
independent producers and will focus exclusively on the following four genres/slots:

1. Factual/ Factual Entertainment series
Tx: Autumn 2011/Winter 2012
Channel: BBC One Wales peak
Duration: 6, 4 or 3 x 30 series
Guide tariff: approx £25k per half hour.

We are looking for a popular series that will occupy the same slot as Coming Home,
Weatherman Walking and other successful factual formats. This is a peak time BBC One
slot and proposals must therefore be aimed at a broad audience with accessible,
well-researched content. Talent is extremely important in this slot and whilst this
doesn't have to be a presenter-led series, the involvement of familiar Welsh faces
or very strong central characters should be considered.

2. Contemporary documentary series.
Tx: Autumn 2011/Winter 2012
Channel: BBC One Wales shoulder peak
Duration: 6, 4 or 3 x 30 series
Guide tariff: approx £25k per half hour.

We are looking to commission a documentary series that is timely, revealing and
potentially hard-hitting. Likely to be an observational documentary format,
proposals should be structured around developing narratives and memorable
contributors. Secured access will be essential. Subjects to avoid, due to other
commissions, are housing estates and the emergency services.

3. Landscape Documentary Series
Tx: Autumn 2011/Winter 2012
Channel: BBC Two Wales peak
Duration: 6, 4 or 3 x 30 series
Guide price £25k per half hour.

This is an established genre for BBC Wales that allows us to celebrate the Welsh
landscape while exploring our culture and history in a very accessible way. Usually
presenter-led, the programmes must have high production values and cover a broad
geographical spread. We welcome the introduction of new talent for this slot.

4. St David's Day Single
Tx: March 2012
Channel: BBC One Wales peak
Duration: Single film, flexible duration, up to 1 x 60
Guide price: tba

To mark St David's Day 2012, we're looking for ideas for a Factual or Entertainment
single that will be feel-good, entertaining and celebratory in tone. Previous
programmes in this slot have included presenter-led history (When Wales Shook the
World, Welsh Icons) and entertainment (Max Boyce Live at Treorchy....Again) but
we're open to the format and genre.

This commissioning tender closes on February 14th 2011 at MIDDAY. Any submissions
after this time will not be considered.

All entries must be submitted on the official form which can be found on the website
at www.bbc.co.uk/wales/commissioning

All submissions must be emailed to commissioningwales@bbc.co.uk
No other email address is valid for entry

The submissions will be shortlisted and candidates invited for interviews.
Interviews will be held on March 2nd and March 4th 2011

We look forward to receiving your ideas.
