What does M from James Bond movies think about the 'real' War on Terror

I have found a new respect for the woman who plays M in the James Bond movies..I found an interview (with the Daily Mail) actress Dame Judi Dench has hit out at today's culture of health and safety that has seen traditional childhood games like conkers banned in schools.

The article went from her views about conkers to showing her wider viewpoint of the world..on the illegal war on Irag...
'Dame Judi also said that she was already 'angry' about the Iraq Inquiry because 'it will end with a report and nobody's actually going to be arraigned for what happened.
And she hit out at the Government for 'siphoning off' money from the arts to help pay for the 2012 Olympics.'

Justice for the public against violent police

Crown Prosecution Service announced that it would not press charges against PC Simon Harwood, a member of Scotland Yard's territorial support group(TSG), a decision that sparked anger from Tomlinson's family and supporters.
The video is clear so I want justice and that cop should be tried for manslaughter.

Activists win court case again Police snoopers

London NoBorders welcomes the Crown Court decision to clear three activists of the charges of "obstructing the police". The Inner London Crown Court ruled that police surveillance of a public political meeting had not been proved to be lawful and that the police had failed to provide any evidence that they were pursuing a "legitimate aim".

Three activists were arrested at the meeting called by London NoBorders in June 2008 when they protested against the surveillance of the meeting by the Metropolitan Police's "Forward Intelligence Team."

The aim of the public meeting, which took place in a community centre
in Southwark, London, was to discuss a demonstration which later took place at the UK Border Agency in Croydon in July 2008. The Metropolitan Police turned up at both public meetings in June 2008, taking photos and filming everybody who attended the meeting.

Thomas Haberg of London NoBorders said: "The fact that the police could not show that their surveillance was authorised in any way is worrying and shows that the Forward Intelligence Team appears to work outside the law. The purpose of the police presence was clearly to intimidate and keep people from organising around political issues.
It also shows that it is important for the future to continue to challenge
the Forward Intelligence Team wherever they turn up."

Therefore London NoBorders welcomes campaigns like FitWatch [1] . "We should not be watched, it is the activities of the police we should have an eye on", added Rosie Young from London NoBorders.

During the trial one witness involved in London NoBorders, who had been followed by police armed with cameras around the area before the meeting, was asked by the prosecution if "he did not think that he is exactly the kind of person the state should be watching?". It appears that the mere fact that London NoBorders disagrees with the UK immigration politics makes them and their supporters a target for close surveillance by the police. The prosecution also asked the witness, who stated that he felt intimidated by the police presence: "Why don't you stay at home when you are concerned about being filmed?"

London NoBorders believes that the issues of increasing surveillance in this society are connected to the militarisation of the national borders, and organised a demonstration around those issues titled "Life is too short to be controlled!" in January 2010. [2] Another demonstration with this title is planned for 30th October 2010.

London NoBorders is a group campaigning for freedom of movement and active in London for more then 6 years. We see ourselves as part of a transnational European wide network.

Government Scraps UK Film Council.

When I find something that I agree with in a Tory Government, should I begin to worry?

I heard that they informed the UK film council over the weekend that it plans to
abolish the UKFC. John Woodward, CEO of the UK Film Council, told staff
about the decision this morning and Culture secretary Jeremy Hunt is due to
inform the House of Commons at 2:30pm this afternoon.

The UKFC were a bunch of wankers when they funded on our films..trying to take the copyright and being so bureaucratic that it was a joke.

On their website, the DCMS has announced they will be:'abolishing the UK Film Council and establishing a direct and less bureaucratic relationship with the British
Film Institute. This would support front-line services while ensuring
greater value for money. Government and Lottery support for film will
continue.'Tim Bevan CBE, Chairman of the UK Film Council, has responded by
saying:³Abolishing the most successful film support organisation the UK has
ever had is a bad decision, imposed without any consultation or evaluation.
People will rightly look back on today¹s announcement and say it was a big
mistake, driven by short-term thinking and political expediency. British
film, which is one of the UK¹s more successful growth industries, deserves
better.³Our immediate priority now is to press the Government to confirm
that the funding levels and core functions that are needed to underpin
British film are locked-in, especially at a time when filmmakers and film
companies need more support than ever as they make the challenging
transition into the digital age. To that end, we will work with the DCMS
over the summer to identify how they can guarantee both continuity and safe
harbour for British film.²

Police not charged over G20 death

Police will not be charged for attacking and killing a newspaper seller during protests against the G20 in London

An officer who was filmed pushing a man to the ground during the G20 protests will not face charges over his death.Ian Tomlinson, 47, died minutes after being caught up in the clashes on 1 April 2009 in the City of London.

Director of Public Prosecutions Keir Starmer said there was no realistic prospect of conviction. The incident and its aftermath was caught on video. read more

The first police account that he died from a heart attack was confirmed by a pathologist, Freddy Patel, in the initial postmortem. But a second postmortem, conducted on behalf of the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC), found Tomlinson died from internal bleeding.

I wonder what you do have to capture on film before the Police are brought to account. They murder a young brazillian in the Tube and no charges and now this..shocking!

Activists to tackle Open cast mine in South Wales

Climate Camp Cymru
13 – 17 August 2010
A momentum is building. Last year we camped next to Ffos y Fran - one of the
largest opencast mines in Europe - for a week of workshops and sustainable
living. This summer we’re going back to basics with a light action-based
camp, targeting coal somewhere in south Wales.

Our current economic system is based on an addiction to fossil fuels and on
maximising profit at the expense of people and the environment. Fossil fuel
corporations cannot be allowed to progress unchecked. We need green jobs for
Wales, not dirty destruction.

On the 13th we’ll meet in Cardiff and make our way from there to the site.
Things to bring:
> Tent
> Sleeping bag
> Warm clothes and waterproofs
> Plate, bowl, mug and cutlery
> and a bike could be useful too

Burning coal is destroying our climate, while opencast mining damages the earth
and the health of local people. We must leave it in the ground.
Join a growing number of ordinary people taking direct action, and exploring
alternatives, to stop the madness that is destroying the earth. This August
13th -17th come to Climate Camp Cymru.

Films about food waste wanted- $300 paid

I got this from a film maker who is working on a documentary film on the
waste of food, its social and environmental consequences, and the
possibilities of reducing the amount of food that ends on the trash.

She said-
We are still looking for professional or amateur filmmakers or
videoactivists that are willing to produce a *3 minutes video* on the
subject of foodwaste in their countries. We pay $300 per video.

Proposals can be sent *until August 15th. Below you can find the call
for entries and the conditions. We are specially interested in videos from Asia, Africa and Latinamerica.

“Taste the Waste”: Call for Videoclips for documentary film *
Our Topic is the waste of food. You could show a huge amount of food
waste, but if possible try also to focus on alternatives or solutions to
avoid food waste.

Food waste occurs during production (on the fields), or during
distribution (on whole sale markets, transport, and in shops and
supermarkets), and during consumption (in restaurants, wedding banketts
or private households).

We need a ready clip of about *3 minutes length*, comment in English or
text on screen, the interviews can be dubbed or subtitled, and we would
love lively music.

Or you just send us your raw material: It should contain enough scenes
so that we can cut a clip of 3 minutes. The video will be cut as a clip
with speed, so whether we get action in the scenes or we cut the images
in a quick rhythm – as a consequence we need a lot of footage to cut.

Please send first a short *outline* of what you plan in English, French,
German or Spanish to: produktion@thurnfilm.de
*until August 15^th .* Please also
specify which video format you want to use. To transfer the footage we
prefer that it is converted into a computer file so that it can be
uploaded on a server. Selected projects will get *300 $* to produce the
video.

According to new regulations being debated by Ofcom, charitable organisations which make campaigning and awareness-raising videos for events such as Refugee Week, and include them on their websites, would count as VOD service providers and may have to pay £2900pa.

Maybe a bright spark in Whitehall thought it would be a good way of stopping people from exposing injustices?
